Synopsis:

Anonymous is an episodic police procedural that centers on the unlikely partnership of a young, unproven detective and an expert contract killer, living in secret.

Staring down the wrong end of a Glock .40 cal, Detective Theresa Bradley has to wonder if she made the right choice. Rei Yamada’s finger on the trigger – a cold blooded killer if there ever was one – she knows he has every reason to end her. After all, she knows who he is. Who he really is. But Tessa didn’t come here looking to take Rei down. No. She’s here to ask for his help.
Two days ago, Det. Bradley caught a case that led her to this point, standing face to face with Rei – formerly an enforcer in the Yakuza mafia, and currently living in anonymity in the Federal Witness Protection Program. Anonymous, that is, until Tessa uncovered his true identity.
Trapped in a menial desk job far too long, living life as a dull normal, Rei is a shadow of his former badass self. The simple truth is, his new life sucks and he’s itching for some adrenaline and a taste of the world he left behind.
Now, desperate for a break in her investigation, Tessa has decided to risk her career (and her life) by pressuring an ex-contract killer to lend his unique perspective to the case. As someone who’s lived his entire life on the other side of the law, Rei understands the criminal element in a way no detective ever could. Reluctantly, he agrees to help Det. Bradley with this case (and others), and using his vast experience in the criminal underbelly, he will soon open Tessa’s eyes to a world that she had only ever scratched the surface of.
Of course, there’s an inherent danger in having a partner you cannot trust. It’s an unconventional relationship that exists between Tessa and Rei – fraught with conflicted emotions, concealed motives, and a little sexual tension, for good measure.
For both our heroes, the stakes couldn’t be any higher. Tessa jeopardizes everything every time she reaches out to Rei. As for Rei, each case he works forces him to step further out of the shadows, putting him in greater danger of being found by people who would like nothing more than to exact revenge. Each has crossed a line, and there may be no way of going back. Ultimately, both need this partnership to work – because each of them is looking to right the wrongs in their past – even if neither of them is prepared to see that yet.
A captivating crime drama with a playful style, Anonymous offers a unique perspective on the police procedural while exploring the themes of identity, morality, and redemption.
